Jason & The Queen of the Faeries
An average man stumbles into a mystifying woman who has an unbelievable story to tell. A fantasy short story inspired by the image prompt that is the cover.
Jason couldn’t believe his eyes. He had followed the strange, yet incredibly beautiful woman into the forest just beyond his backyard. He had been here so many times, and this place had never been here before. She had told him it was the faerie realm, a place that coexists with our reality. He stopped in his tracks as he suddenly felt a sinking feeling in his stomach. She had also mentioned that he was their only hope.
Jason whipped his head back toward his house. His jaw slacked as he could see only forest. He should’ve been able to see the back porch light. He scratched his head as he turned back to see the woman sitting on a garden bench, patiently waiting for him. The sinking feeling returned as he began to approach her. He pulled out his cell phone and pressed the button. Nothing happened.
“I am afraid your electronics will not work in this realm.”
As he put his phone back into his back pocket, the owl flew by close enough to make him flinch. Jason was not a fan of animals, and they seemed to never want to get along with him either. He glared at the owl as he sat next to the woman. It perched onto a branch of a tree nearby. He looked into the woman’s eyes and she gave him a polite, but genuine smile. He tried to give her a smile back, but wasn’t really sure what expression he showed her. He wasn’t sure just how to feel about essentially being kidnapped by some kind of forest maiden.
“I must apologize for the abruptness of it all, but our situation has become very dire.” Her expression became very serious before she continued. “There is a crisis occurring that is putting both of our realms in danger.”
“I see, but what does this have to do with me? I’m just an insurance salesman.”
She gave him another polite smile, “The last Centrion died yesterday.”
“What is a Centrion?”
“They were the guardians of the Nether realm. The realm in between realms.”
“I still don’t understand what this has to do with me.”
“Our prophecizers have determined that you are a direct descendant of a Centrion, which means you are the only one capable of saving everyone.”
“Oh, no.” Jason flew to his feet and started backing away, “I’ve seen this movie. I have to go to that Nether realm and fight some crazy army full of demons or some shit. Nope,” he said, shaking his head, “No thanks.” He continued to back away.
She got up and began to walk toward him, “Actually, that will not be necessary. Your task is very simple.”
Jason stopped backing away. “Just how simple do you mean?”
“All that is required of you is to lay with me.”
Jason adjusted his glasses, then scratched at his forehead. “Y-you mean,” he began, blinking his eyes in disbelief, “All I have to do is have sex with you?”
“Yes,” she said as she had gotten close to him. “The child I bear will grow up to be trained as the next Centrion. After we lay together, you can go back to your life in the Earth realm.”
“Huh.” Sweat began to bead on Jason’s forehead. “So, I just… I just…” He couldn’t continue his thoughts as soon as it was confirmed. He tried to say something, anything, but his lip just quivered. His eyes went wide as he watched her lean in and kiss him. Her luscious lips felt like silk, and he could feel himself melting into the kiss. He thought he might fall over as she broke the kiss and made her way to the small, wooden hut. Jason wished his phone would work to take a picture of her. His workmates are never going to believe this.

Nice one! Although I kept feeling like there should be anothrer twist at the end, like laying with her has some negative consequences for the guy, hence why people and beings in the know are not willing to do this :P
