Hello Readers,
My partner and I—and by partner, I mean my lover and best friend—have a sanctuary for rescued guinea pigs and a few other animals that we call, Piggieverse.
The reason that we focus on guinea pigs is that, they’re sold as starter pets, but they’re really not. They require cages that are at least as big as the biggest you can buy at the pet store, regular nail trimmings, occasional teeth trimmings, etc. When male piggies get old, they sometimes need their anal sac cleaned out, which is super gross.
They also need a steady diet of hay, grains, and vegetables/fruits. Some even need vitamin C drops if there’s not enough in the grains you buy.
I could go on, but these little bundles of personality deserve better. One of the most important things is, they need to at least be paired with another piggie. They are highly social animals and thrive when around others of their kind. Some even thrive with other animals like Jax and Surprise.
I know some people freak out about pairing rabbits and guinea pigs, but Jax is the most loving animal I’ve ever met. For a male rabbit, he is incredibly chill and wants to get along with everyone, including Maxwell, our cat.
Surprise still doesn’t know what to think about Max, and despite how Max loves to give Jax boops—heavy ones too—he seems to want to play with the guinea pigs when they come close to him.
All in all, we have over four dozen rescued pets that include the aforementioned rabbit and cat, plus a hamster and a turtle.
I’ll put a few more images at the bottom, but if you can manage it, we’re always in need of something like, hay or grains. Please consider visiting our Amazon wishlist: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/1L9HMRVPOQO61?ref_=wl_share
