Now, before you get excited about this story, you must know that it is only an encounter of the first kind, and I don’t say close for a reason to be explained later.
I can’t remember if this happened before or after I lost my left pinky, but it happened during my brief stay in Pensacola, Florida before my father got stationed in Italy. I spent third grade there, so I was seven or eight at the time. [Read Pinkies are Expensive if you’d like to know how I lost it.]
We lived in a small cul-de-sac neighborhood, and I remember that it was evening, but still warm outside. The parents of my friend who lived across our cul-de-sac were visiting mine at our house. He had brought over his telescope, and I was really excited because I had never looked through one before.
He was looking through it first, and I honestly don’t remember what we talked about while he was, I guess looking for something cool to look at. It didn’t seem very long before he called me over to take a look. He seemed quite excited, but didn’t tell me what I was going to look at.
I assumed it was the moon, as it was in the direction of the telescope, but when I looked through, all I saw were stars. I was about to pull away when I noticed that two of them were moving rather fast, and in a very tight figure-eight pattern in which they alternated directions.
All of the other stars weren’t moving as expected, and I’m pretty sure we both jumped to the UFO conclusion — the kind with little green men flying spaceships. Knowing what I know now, I can’t refute that postulation, however, I am open to other suggestions or hypotheses.
I’m no expert, but I know of no celestial bodies that would act in the same manner. I’ve been told that the pattern might be distorted and that it’s just two objects orbiting a third, but this doesn’t explain the speed with which they moved, passing each other every half second or so. If they were celestial bodies far enough away to look like stars, then we shouldn’t be able to perceive their movement.
I remember we both rushed inside to tell our parents that we saw UFOs, but they all scoffed at us and brushed us off, as though we were exaggerating what we had seen. I was so disappointed. We made no exaggerations. I didn’t know my step-mother very well at that point, but it was the first major let down of many. We were both very disheartened.
I know that we both went back outside, but I can’t remember if we were able to see them again or not. I do still think that they were genuine UFOs, and since they were in space, I don’t think that they fall into the UAP category. I can only assume they have some newer terminology for phenomena that occurs in space.
In conclusion, I know what my friend and I saw, and I’ve never seen anything like it since. Not even in all of the UFO footage I’ve seen. Faked or not, I’ve seen quite a bit.
Now with the disclosure happening, I feel more comfortable telling this story to a broader audience. I’m really curious to know if anyone has ever seen anything like this, or maybe has a plausible explanation.
